52KG drugs seized as three international gangs busted
dubai — The Dubai Police have busted three international gangs and seized almost 52kg of drugs in operations that lasted for several months. A top police official said one gang was using Dubai’s strategic location to ship drugs to a large geographical area that covered South America to Asia and Africa.
Major-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police, said the drug dealers were of multiple nationalities. The seized drugs included varying amounts of heroin, cocaine and hashish.
According to Major-General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation, in the first operation, the police seized 13kg of cocaine with the arrest of six suspects. The accused were trying to smuggle the drugs as an oil paint shipment.
In the second operation, the police seized 14.4kg of heroin from a dhow. The suspects were arrested from Al Qusais and Dubai Marina.
In the third operation, the police arrested three suspects from a shopping mall in a sting operation. The gang had smuggled 24.4kg of hashish from a neighbouring country. The suspects have been referred to the public prosecution for further investigations.
