Students’ exhibition hails Zayed as legend
dubai — As part of the Year of Zayed and embedding UAE culture within the curriculum, Grade 3 and 4 students of a Dubai school have organised a cross curricular exhibition on the Founding Father of the nation, titled ‘U Are A Legend’.
Students from The Millennium School (TIMS), Dubai displayed values and works of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in the form of unique projects made by integrating their creativity with subjects such as math, science, English and social studies. Youngest Emirati rhythmic gymnast Lamia Tariq was invited to inaugurate the exhibition.
Ushering the guests to the exhibition was a Grade 4 student, who was wearing a dress made up of recyclable material to promote the idea of sustainability, an idea close to the late founding father’s heart.
Talking about the concept of the exhibition, TMS principal Ambica Gulati told Khaleej Times: “This exhibition aimed at introducing the primary section of the school to the Year of Zayed, where the students researched, developed and articulated the information they had gathered about the Founding Father of the UAE by way of linking it to their subjects.”
Reminding the students to keep Sheikh Zayed in their minds and hearts, seven-year-old Emirati gymnast Lamia spoke on how the founding father believed that children were the future and how he laid emphasis on education.
Speaking on the occasion, Malak Alfarsi, Lamia’s mother, who was present with her husband, said: “It is an honour for Lamia to be the youngest Emirati gymnast representing the Emirati culture. It was fascinating to see so many expatriate children putting together such
detailed work on the culture of the UAE and the founding father.”
Parents of the students could come and see their children’s projects displayed in different classrooms. As part of the exhibition, the students were also able to articulate and explain their projects to the visitors, parents as well as principals from other schools. “The exhibition is not only about developing a project and researching on the different aspects of the UAE’s culture and its founding father, but it is also a chance for these students to explain what they have done and the idea behind it. They are able to correlate the information,” added Gulati.
Primary school head Althea de Andrade told Khaleej Times: “The cross curricular exhibition focused on remembering all that Sheikh Zayed did to give us the UAE of today. Emphasis was laid on Islamic culture, education, youth, sustainability, sports, science and the arts. As expats, it is imperative that students imbibe the virtues and values of the founding father of the UAE.”
The main idea of the exhibition was about getting to know the late Sheikh Zayed bin Nahyan better and displaying all the work he has done and also displaying his values for the environment.
It is also a chance for these students to explain what they have done and the idea behind it. They are able to correlate the information.”
