ras al khaimah — The Ras Al Khaimah Police have installed more radars on the roads of the emirate to better curb speeding motorists and reduce traffic accidents and casualties.

Most of the new cameras have been installed on the Seeh and Dahisa roads, as well as other hotspots where many speeding violations have been recently reported.

Col Ahmad Al Sham Al Naqbi, director of the traffic and patrols department, RAK police, said mobile radars have been operated on the road from Saqr hospital to Bin Ibrahim locality and the road close to the new officers club in Dahisa area.

“Speed signboards have been installed on the roads to warn motorists,” he said. “The maximum speed limit on these roads is 80kmph while the radars start flashing at 101kmph, considering the 20kmph buffer speed.”

He added that the speed limit has been determined after an intensive study in collaboration with the bodies concerned.

“The capacity of these roads and the number of cars were considered to ensure safe traffic flow.”

Col Al Naqbi said that the location of mobile radars is changed from time to time as per need. They are mainly installed or operated on the roads where speeding violations are repetitively reported. The hotspots with most road accidents and casualties are also taken into consideration. Speeding has been reportedly blamed for so many deadly accidents on this arterial road and other roads of the emirate, Col Al Naqbi pointed out.

“Most of the motorists involved in speeding violations are youngsters and unlicensed drivers,” he said, adding that their parents irresponsibly allow them to drive.”
