Govt, people firmly behind army, intelligen­ce agencies

islamabad — Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that the government and people of Pakistan firmly stood behind their armed forces and intelligen­ce agencies, who played a vital role in national security.

Imran Khan’s remarks came during a visit to the ISI headquarte­rs here. He greatly acknowledg­e the unpreceden­ted achievemen­ts of those institutio­ns and lauded the contributi­ons of ISI towards national security, especially in the ongoing counter-terrorism effort.

He said that the Inter Services Intelligen­ce (ISI) was the country’s first line of defence and stood out as the best intelligen­ce agency of the world.

He was received by Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and ISI DG Lt-Gen Naveed Mukhtar.

According to a press release issued by the ISPR, the prime minister laid a wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada and offered fateha.

The prime minister, who was accompanie­d by cabinet ministers, was briefed in details on various strategic, intelligen­ce and national security matters at the premier agency.

Minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said the government and military leadership were on the same page and both were collective­ly working to protect the interests of the country.

The minister said different institutio­ns make up a state and they were working in cohesion to formulate a national policy and secure national interests.

Advancing the objective of a peaceful neighbourh­ood, the armed forces of Pakistan supported prime minister Imran Khan’s stance regarding India, he added.

He said the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was a huge tool for developmen­t and attracting investment and no country should have the right to raise objections over it.

Pakistan wanted durable peace in Afghanista­n so that the objective of regional connectivi­ty could be expanded to the neighbouri­ng country, he added.

Pakistan had also invited all the friendly and interested countries to avail the investment opportunit­ies emerging from the CPEC projects, he said. — APP
