PM for coordinate­d efforts to curb street crimes in Karachi

karachi — Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday expressed concerns over a surge in street crimes in the Sindh metropolis and called for coordinate­d efforts to purge the city of criminal activities.

Chairing a meeting on the law and order situation in Karachi here at the State Guest House, the prime minister took strong exception to the cases of abduction of children in the city.

Imran stressed the need of a coordinate­d action against criminals and called for urgent recovery of the children and relief to the parents.

Sindh Chief Secretary Azam Suleiman Khan gave a detailed briefing on the law and order situation in the province in general and Karachi in particular, which followed a presentati­on by the DG Rangers (Sindh) on the Karachi operation.

The prime minister appreciate­d the measures being taken for cleanlines­s in the metropolis.

He directed to expedite the efforts being made to provide the

much-needed relief to the masses.

The prime minister also chaired a meeting on the developmen­t projects being funded by the federal government in Karachi.

He expressed concern over the water crisis in Karachi and emphasized the need for an enhanced coordinati­on between the federal and provincial government­s for cofunded projects.

The meeting was informed that Karachi was facing a water shortage of 573 million gallons per day (MGD)

as against a demand of 918 MGD.

The meeting was briefed about the ongoing federal government­funded developmen­t projects, particular­ly the Green Line Project and the K-IV Water Supply Project.

While discussing the Green Line Project, the prime minister directed that a representa­tive of the Karachi Metropolit­an Corporatio­n should be included in its board of directors.

Earlier on arrival in Karachi on his maiden visit after assuming the office, Prime Minister Imran Khan visited the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah to pay respect to the father of the nation.

The prime minister was accompanie­d by Sindh Governor Imran Ismail, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and his special assistant on political affairs Naeemul Haq.

The prime minister laid a wreath at the mausoleum and offered fateha. He also wrote down his comments at the guest book paying tribute to the great leader.

The prime minister also visited the mausoleums of Pakistan’s first prime minister Liaquat Ali Khan and Ms Fatima Jinnah, the sister of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah, both buried within the premises of Quaid’s mausoleum. He laid wreaths and also offered fateha.

Earlier accompanie­d by the Sindh governor and chief minister, the prime minister planted a sapling on the premises of the State Guest House. He also held a joint meeting with the two. —
