Flights for typhoon-hit Hong Kong cancelled

dubai — Emirates and Etihad cancelled their scheduled flights from Dubai and Abu Dhabi on Sunday due to adverse weather conditions caused by super typhoon Mangkhut.

Flights to Guangzhou, Cebu, and Clark are also expected to suffer delays for the next two days.

According to an official statement on the Emirates Airlines website, the cancellati­ons will affect passengers who booked tickets on the September 16 Dubai-Hong Kong-Dubai and Bangkok-Hong Kong-Bangkok sectors. Passengers will not be accepted on those flights.

However, passengers booked on the Dubai-Bangkok-Dubai sector are not affected by these cancellati­ons and can proceed with their travel plans.

The statement said: “Customers are advised to check their flight status for the latest updates and to ensure their contact details are correct by visiting ‘Manage Your Booking’ to receive latest updates.”

Passengers booked to travel to/ from Cebu/Clark/Hong Kong/ Guangzhou on September 16, 17 and 18 can opt to change their flights up to seven days later than originally booked. “These passengers are requested to contact their travel agent or booking offices to make changes to their bookings,” it added.

Emirates has apologised to its passengers and said, “The situation is being closely monitored. We are sorry for any inconvenie­nce.”

Furthermor­e, Etihad Airways has also cancelled its scheduled flights from Abu Dhabi on September 16. Guests booked on these flights were being rebooked onto the next available flights, an Etihad spokespers­on said.
