Khalifa foundation opens food outlet

-

dubai — The Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation has opened the first foodstuff outlet to serve Emiratis and residents at Nad Al Hamar in Dubai.

The outlet is opened in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Cooperative Society, under the aegis of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation.

The market was launched by Mohammed Haji Al Khouri, director-general of the foundation, and Bejoy Thomas, COO of Abu Dhabi Cooperative Society.

The outlet will be selling food products to Emiratis and residents at reduced prices. However, rice and flour will be sold only to Emiratis.

The move comes out of the keenness of the foundation to fulfil the order of the President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in May 2012 to transform the seasonal ‘Ramadan Ration’ project to an ongoing project that will benefit the Emiratis and residents throughout the year.

Al Khouri said that the idea of a food outlet that sells food at reduced prices has received wide support from around the world and has begun to spread in the Arab world. He added that the initiative aims to provide basic food supplies to Emiratis and residents at subsidised prices, which are lower than those in local markets.

For some products, the price reduction may reach about 25 per cent from the price in the local market.

Al Khouri explained that the initiative began with rice, but today, there are now over 63 basic food supplies sold by the foundation, due to its strategic partnerships with national companies, institutions and factories, which aim to promote local products and strengthen the national economy. —
