Trio jailed for embezzling Dh428,000

sharjah — Three Arab nationals were each sentenced to six months in prison by Sharjah Criminal Court for embezzling Dh428,000 from the government department in which they were working in Sharjah.

The trio will be deported after serving their jail terms.

The court also ordered the defendant - identified as MAA - to return Dh293,000 to the department and fined him an equivalent amount. It also asked the second defendant to hand back Dh135, 000 and pay the same amount as fine.

According to police records, a government employee, while reviewing the staff list of the department, discovered that names of people who didn’t work in the department were included in it. The list also had names of those who had resigned.
