ajman — More than 50 women and children of various nationalities who were exposed to domestic violence received help and support from the Ajman Woman and Child Protection Foundation (AWCPF) in the last eight months.

An official at the foundation said the AWCPF works to protect women and children from all forms of violence and exploitation, as well as safeguard their dignity while ensuring they enjoy their rights in the country.

She added that 50 cases of domestic violence have been reported during the last eight months. The foundation has contributed to the resolution of 30 cases, while some physical abuse cases of women and children have been referred to the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children Care to provide them shelter, social and psychological care.

She pointed out that the cases received at the AWCPF involved violence against wives and children by husbands and parents, respectively. The victims were subjected to physical assault and verbal abuse.

The official added that the AWCPF works hard to promote family stability and raise awareness among parents about the importance of caring for their children in a healthy environment, without violence and bickering that cause negative impact on the health and safety of the kids.

She said the AWCPF has recently devised a plan aimed at spreading a culture of protection for women and children from all forms of violence, while promoting family cohesion. It also envisages raising kids in an atmosphere free from family disputes between parents and providing legal advice to protect the rights of women. The foundation organises workshops and educational lectures for members of the family in order to boost their ties and bring them closer.

The official said the cases received at the AWCPF’s hotline (800446292) are mostly of women who are psychologically scarred by violence, especially by their husbands, apart from incidents where children were neglected.
