Ex-CJ’s son-in-law nabbed in Eden Housing scandal
The arrest of Murtaza Amjad by the FIA is a major success in the government’s campaign for accountability

islamabad — Information Minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said on Wednesday that a Murtaza Amjad, son-in-law of former chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhry, has been arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in connection with multi-billion rupees fraud in Eden Housing Society Lahore.
Talking to the media outside the Parliament House, the minister said that the scam had surfaced during the tenure of Iftikhar Chaudhry as chief justice, who gave relief to the accused. The criminal proceedings were initiated against them by the National Accountability Bureau over the charges of depriving thousands of affectees of their hard earned money worth billions of rupees, he said.
Fawad said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has sought a report about the other accused including son of former chief justice Arsalan Iftikhar and his daughter and her father-in-law Dr Amjad who is the owner of the scheme. He said the arrest of Murtaza Amjad shows that the government was serious in the process of accountability. The minister termed the arrest of Murtaza Amjad by the Federal Investigation Agency as a “major success” in the government’s campaign for accountability.
The warrants for his arrest were issued by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
Some concrete development regarding the arrest of the other accused is expected to emerge soon, Fawad added.
The affectees of the Eden Housing Society had on Sunday held a demonstration outside the Lahore residence of Imran Khan, urging him to help them get their hardearned money back allegedly looted by the group. —
