dubai — The UAE passport has risen in the ranks again, with the Passport Index ranking it the 8th most powerful passport in the world.

The Passport Index also issued a report regarding the UAE’s rapid progress through the ranks of the world’s most powerful passports, with visa-free entry or visa on arrival to 158 countries worldwide.

This comes on the heels of two recent visa-waiver agreements the UAE signed on the sidelines of the 73rd United Nations General Assembly meet being held in New York this week.

No other country has seen such meteoric advancement in its rankings in such a short time frame.

“The UAE’s dedication and vision has given it a solid foundation upon which to build its future,” according to the Passport Index report.

“Its unparalleled advancement is due to progress in technological, educational, investment and infrastructure realms.”

After signing agreements with Paraguay and Serbia, the UAE is inching closer to being amongst the five most powerful passports in the world. It already clinched the title for the most powerful passport regionally in the Arab world.

In 2017, the UAE had announced a goal of positioning the country’s passport on the list of the five most important passports in the world by 2021, under the directives of Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Chairman of the Education and Human Resources Council.

Over the last decade, the UAE passport has seen immense growth in its global visa-free score and is amongst the list of nations that have experienced the fastest growth in the world. Having gained the trust and respect of over 35 countries in the past decade, UAE’s passport power is slowly but surely reaching the summit. It achieved a major boost in 2015 when it was given Schengen-free entry to 26 European countries.
