dubai — Surat-based diamond baron Savji Dholakiya, the owner of Hari Krishna Exports, is making headlines again for handing over keys of Mercedes Benz GLS SUVs to three of his employees.

Each of his three employees, Nilesh Jada (40), Mukesh Chandpara (38) and Mahesh Chandpara (43), received the luxury cars worth Rs10 million each (Dh1.5 million) last week. All of them had joined the company as teenagers and stayed on for over 25 years.

The lucky employees received the keys at an event from Madhya Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, according to media reports.

The trio had joined the firm when they were around 13 or 15 years old and started at a beginner’s level with cutting and polishing diamonds. Over the years, they went on to scale greater heights in the company. “Now they are not only experts but most senior and one of the most trusted people,” Dholakiya was quoted in The Times of India.

“I felt we must recognise their work and loyalty to the company and so I decided to gift them these cars as our gratitude to them and their loyalty and hard work,” he further added.

At the event, the company also handed out a cheque of over Rs10 million insurance to the family members of a former employee — a diamond artist, who had died in a car accident early this year. Fondly known as ‘kaka’ (uncle) by everybody in his firm, his employees insist that he treats them as family members.

This isn’t the first time the billionaire is in the news for his generosity. In 2016, he had gifted 400 flats and 1,260 cars as Diwali bonuses to his staff for meeting company targets. “Our aim is that each employee must have his own home and car in the next five years. So we have decided to gift cars, homes and jewellery to employees,” Dholakia told AFP.
