UAE’s youth geared up for Olympics in Buenos Aires

dubai — The UAE will take part in Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games from October 6-18. The UAE National Olympic Committee (NOC) delegation consists of 17 sportsmen, including seven male and female athletes competing in five different sports, according to a press release.

Talal Al Shinqeeti, Acting Secretary-General of the National Olympic Committee, will head the delegation; which also includes Mohammed bin Darwish, Executive Director of the Committee, and Ahmed Al Tayyeb, Director of Technical and Sports Affairs of the NOC as Chef de Mission.

The athletes will compete in five different sports. Rider Omar Abdulaziz Al Marzouqi will compete in equestrian events (show jumping), and both Mohammed Adil Al Hajri and Rima Mohammed Al Hilo will compete in golf.

Latifa Al Mazmi will take part in 10m rifle shooting, Sarah Al Ameri will be competing in 59kg karate, and both Sheikh Mohammed bin Montasir Al Qassimi and May Al Madani will be representi­ng the country in weightlift­ing.

On October 7, shooting and weightlift­ing competitio­ns kickoff the UAE participat­ion in the Youth Olympic Games.

Omar Abdulaziz Al Marzouqi will compete in show jumping on October 8, Adil Al Hajri and Rima Mohammed Al Hilo will play in the golf competitio­n on October 9, while Sarah Al Ameri concludes UAE’s participat­ion in karate on October 17.

The UAE athletes will be competing in the Youth Olympics Games for the third time running following the inaugural event in Singapore in 2010, and the second edition in Nanjing (China) in 2014.

The Youth Olympics Games will see 4,000 athletes competing in 32 games to be held in four sports facilities, namely the Green Park, Youth Olympic Park, Technopoli­s Park and Stand Alone Venues.

The Olympic Village officially opened today to all delegation­s from all over the world.
