Razzaq hopes to smash his way back into the T20 scene
abu dhabi — Former Pakistan allrounder Abdul Razzaq is 38 years old but is prepared to fight his way into Pakistan’s T20 arena.
Razzaq had retired from international scene in 2013 but returned to play domestic cricket earlier this year. Playing in Abu Dhabi T20 for Lahore Qalandars, he said, is a window of opportunity to re-enter Pakistan’s T20 world. ‘Bang Bang’ Razzaq, the old warhorse, is spending quality time on fitness to remain competitive. “This is a good opportunity for me to once again establish myself,” he said on Wednesday.
“I thank Lahore Qalandars coach Aaqib Javed for presenting me this opportunity. I am hopeful that if I perform well here, it will open the doors to T20 cricket for me and hopefully I also get a chance to play the Pakistan Super League,” he added.
Razzaq, who is the acting captain of Lahore, noted a creditable show in tournaments like Abu Dhabi T20 helps a youngster throw his name in the ring for the Pakistan Super League. He also said that solid performances in overseas and domestic conditions were a major step to bag a spot in Pakistan national team.
“We have a young side and our coach Aaqib has picked players from the backward areas of Pakistan,” he said. “He has done lot of hard work. This is a young and talented side. This is a great platform for them to perform, prove their mettle and justify their place in the team. This will also ensure the players stand a good chance to cement their place in the squad for the PSL. Once a player performs well in such T20 events and follow it up with good show in four-day matches in domestic circle, the player stand a great chance to play for the national side.”
