14 sewage tankers caught dumping waste water in valleys, mountains
ras al khaimah — The environment protection and development authority in Ras Al Khaimah has nabbed 14 sewage tankers while offloading waste water in valleys, agricultural lands, and mountainous areas.
The erring drivers were detected through a surveillance system operated by satellites — launched in August.
“The ‘Taraf’ surveillance system, run in collaboration with the department of public works, monitors every waste water tanker,” said Dr Saif Al Ghais, executive director of the authority. “The new system is meant to identify the amount of sewage water being transported. It also helps curb anti-environment violations related loading and offloading sewage wastes.

Ahmad Al Shehi, an advisor to the department of public services, said the system helped detect 14 drivers of sewage water tankers recently.
“Short text messages that show the identification number of the erring sewage water tanker were sent to their operating companies to alert them that their staff drivers failed to offload their sewage water at the Filya sewage treatment station.”
The Raqib inspection patrols are also dispatched to the reported site to nab the erring drivers, he added. “Hefty fines have been slapped on the erring driver, while the tanker involved is impounded and the owner company is denied any transaction until payment of the fine.”
