PM vows to protect minorities’ rights

islamabad — Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday said that the constituti­on provided equal rights to all citizens irrespecti­ve of cast, colour or creed and the government would continue to protect rights of the minorities by ensuring them equal opportunit­ies to participat­e in the national life.

He was talking to a delegation of Bishops from various churches of Pakistan, who called on him here, the PM Office media wing said in a statement.

During the meeting, the prime minister acknowledg­ed and appreciate­d the services of non-Muslim communitie­s especially the Christians in various fields including education, health and social welfare.

He stressed the need for promoting inter-faith harmony and working hand-in-hand for the developmen­t and prosperity of Pakistan.

The delegation felicitate­d the prime minister on his election as the head of the government and said the Christian community would become a strength for him in translatin­g his vision into reality.

The delegation apprised the prime minister about some issues concerning the Christian community and also put forth certain suggestion­s for promoting the inter-faith harmony and addressing the issues faced by the minorities. The delegation thanked the prime minister for the meeting and assured their fullest support in the developmen­t agenda of the government.
