PM vows to protect minorities’ rights
islamabad — Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday said that the constitution provided equal rights to all citizens irrespective of cast, colour or creed and the government would continue to protect rights of the minorities by ensuring them equal opportunities to participate in the national life.
He was talking to a delegation of Bishops from various churches of Pakistan, who called on him here, the PM Office media wing said in a statement.
During the meeting, the prime minister acknowledged and appreciated the services of non-Muslim communities especially the Christians in various fields including education, health and social welfare.
He stressed the need for promoting inter-faith harmony and working hand-in-hand for the development and prosperity of Pakistan.
The delegation felicitated the prime minister on his election as the head of the government and said the Christian community would become a strength for him in translating his vision into reality.
The delegation apprised the prime minister about some issues concerning the Christian community and also put forth certain suggestions for promoting the inter-faith harmony and addressing the issues faced by the minorities. The delegation thanked the prime minister for the meeting and assured their fullest support in the development agenda of the government.
