No sulphur wells in UAQ: Civic body

umm al quwain —The Umm Al Quwain Municipali­ty denied a video footage that went viral on social media about sulphur water being found in a well in the emirate.

“All informatio­n in the video clip is baseless and incorrect,” said Ubaid Sultan Twairish, acting director-general of the UAQ Municipali­ty. The owner of the video shall be fully held responsibl­e for posting and sharing the video on social media.

Twairish urged the public not to post or share such baseless rumours on social media or via any means of communicat­ion.

“The UAQ Municipali­ty authoritie­s are set to curb rumours and protect the society against fabricated news,” he added.

Meanwhile, the UAQ Municipali­ty recently closed down seven water wells dug illegally.

“Hefty fines will be slapped on whoever digs a water well, violating the undergroun­d water law and the public health and environmen­t law,” he said.

air when a plumbing line is opened, giving a distinct rotten egg smell.”

Sulphur water is perfectly safe to drink despite its strong unpleasant odour, she added. “Sulphur can be used to ease itchy irritated skin rashes, such as eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, dandruff, and warts. It also helps protect against toxins in the environmen­t.”
