It is a matter of concern that people from the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh working in Gujarat are being threatened by the native people to leave the state immediately. In the first place, it is surprising that this is happening to people from the three states belonging to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The threats, including death threats, are so effective that almost 20,000 people have fled Gujarat in a matter of days. It seems the government was not expecting such an exodus. A large police force is now in place to prevent any such untoward happening. Such a phenomenon was experienced in Bangalore a few months ago and people from the eastern states were made to leave. But why is this happening?

Such activity destabilises the nation. Is this what Mahatma Gandhi stood for and sacrificed his life for? The ideals of Sardar Patel are being thrown to the winds in Gujarat. It seems like the divisive forces are aiming at tearing apart the fabric of humanity.

Irresponsible and immature elements who do not care for the nation are snatching away the livelihood of a large number of wage earners. Those who have fled must be brought back to set an example to the wrong doers. India needs peace, harmony and stability to achieve the goal of excellence. In fact, India should stand tall and united in this world of chaos.
