New rules for Sharjah parking lots
sharjah — Owners of private parking lots in Sharjah will now have to maintain a standardised room or office for the operators who provide the service to motorists.
Private parking investors will have to pay Dh15,000 for the room, a senior official at the Sharjah Municipality told Khaleej
Times, adding that this will be mandatory for renewing their licence. The room will have a uniform design for all parking lots to conform to the technical and safety requirements as well as to maintain the aesthetic appearance of the city. The operators will not be able to use the room for any other purposes.
The municipality has issued circulars to the owners of private parking lots, explaining new regulations, which make it mandatory for the employees to wear yellow safety jackets while at work. The jacket must bear the details, including the name of the establishment on its right side, the name of the worker on the left side and the name of the establishment and its logo on the back of the jacket, in Arabic and English. The circular said that the room is characterised with appropriate design and a comfortable seat for the operator.
The move is part of the civic body’s efforts to achieve a kind uniformity in all private parking lots, the official added. There are 253 private parking lots in Sharjah under the supervision of the municipality, he noted, urging the public to report any violation of these regulations.
