sharjah — A four-day event in Sharjah will be featuring 90 celebrated photographers from across the world.

The third edition of Xposure International Photography Festival, organised by the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB), will display 700 images in 30 individual exhibitions at the Sharjah Expo Centre from November 21 to 24.

Unveiling the details at a Press conference on Wednesday at Al Majaz Amphitheatre, Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, chairman of Sharjah Media Council (SMC), said: “The festival not only celebrates the technique behind a great photo, but explores the unique ability of the photographer to make a memorable moment and add aesthetic appeal and meaning to its message. The festival is a reminder that those with the power of the camera have a responsibility to use it for the good of humanity. The festival also uncovers the stories behind a memorable picture, the act of capturing it, which often exposes the photographer to several dangers, and even life risks, as they fulfil their commitment to communicate important stories to the world.”

Speaking to Khaleej Times on the sidelines of the Press conference, he said: “Today, with digital revolution and communication breakthroughs transcending physical, geographical, ethnic and linguistic barriers, photography has become one of the most important art forms. It is arguably one of the most significant tools that shapes global culture and conscience, and has a far-reaching impact on people’s behaviours and reactions to each detail in their lives.”

Tariq Saeed Allay, director of the SGMB, said: “The festival has developed a plethora of exhibitions, events and activities to be displayed for public viewing and engagement across six destinations in Sharjah and Dubai.

“An ‘Emerging Photographer’ initiative to attract promising young talents in the field and promote their art by showcasing their works along- side those of the veterans in the field is also included in the festival.”

He added that the number of entries this year has increased by 35 per cent, compared to last year. The competition has received more than 13,500 entries from 112 countries across its 10 categories.

The Xposure 2018 platform will also be used for 18 interactive panel discussions as well as 16 photography workshops and specialised courses which will deliver latest know-how of photography techniques.
