Jealous lover kills girlfriend, court hears

abu dhabi — A man killed his girlfriend after he suspected her of having an affair, heard an Abu Dhabi court. After allegedly committing the murder, the man attempted to commit suicide by throwing himself into the sea.

The Egyptian man is now on trial at the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court of First Instance facing charges of murder, attempted suicide and having an illicit relationship. Court documents stated that the police arrested the accused after investigations confirmed that he tried to commit suicide after killing his lover, also an Egyptian.

The murder occurred in September 2015 after the couple had an argument over the woman’s alleged relationship with another man.

The man told prosecutors that he had spent two years in an illicit relationship with the Egyptian woman before discovering that she was seeing another man.

He said the woman allegedly denied everything which resulted an argument. The man beat the woman which caused her death, said the prosecutors. “The man then tried to end his life by throwing himself into the sea but he was saved by residents,” said officers.

Prosecutors charged him with murder, attempted suicide and adultery. He admitted to the court of beating the woman out of anger, but he denied intentionally killing her.

The trial was adjourned until October 30.
