Rain and cloudy weather likely

- KT Report

dubai — More clouds are gathering over the country and the Met department is forcasting rains and strong but cool winds. Thunderstorms are likely across the country over the weekend, according to the latest forecast of the National Centre of Meteorology.

On Friday, UAE residents woke up to cloudy weather. Due to low pressure in the Arabian Peninsula, light to moderate rain was reported from different parts of UAE on Friday morning. The sea will be rough.

dubai/sharjah — The outdoor season seems to have kicked off across the UAE this weekend with the forecasters announcing the possibility of unstable weather to prevail and towering clouds inviting residents outdoors.

Light to moderate rain was reported from different parts of the UAE on Friday morning. As rain continued to drench areas of the UAE, including Masafi, Al Falah, Mohamed Bin Zayed City, Al Dhafra area and Kalba, a weather warning was recently issued by the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) on a chance of towering clouds associated with rainfall over most of the UAE accompanied by fresh winds causing rough seas.

For today, the NCM website predicts partly cloudy day, with a chance of convective clouds, especially eastward. Light to moderate winds in general, freshening at times, causing blowing dust/sand in case of convective clouds activity. It said that sea will be moderate, becoming rough at times in the Arabian Gulf and moderate in Oman Sea.

However, the happiness of the UAE residents knew no bounds as they got up to a partly cloudy morning on Friday.

Dubai resident Hafsa had plans to meet her cousins for lunch but the plan was extended as the group met up for lunch and witnessed the “unbelievable” weather.

“We could not believe the weather. Although we planned just a lunch programme when we saw a thick concentration of clouds moving towards the beach we quickly changed our plan and headed to the beach. We hardly get to enjoy such a weather. With news coming of rains hitting the Northern Emirates, we hope we get some showers here in Dubai as well.”

Saima, who stays in UAQ, said she keeps a track of the weather by taking regular updates from online websites. The mother of four said this is the most awaited season here in the UAE. “As soon as I read online about scattered thunderstorm and chances of rain, I knew this is going to be an exciting weekend. I am packing my four kids and we are hitting the road towards the Jebel Jais mountains or maybe Al Ain — we will decide on the way. Or rather we will follow the clouds. And we will welcome this weather by enjoying some hot pakoras (fritters) and tea on the way. Who can let go off this amazing weather.”

Sharjah resident Hamid and his wife didn’t have a great start to the weekend as they had to get up early to see off a friend at the Dubai airport, whose flight was delayed. Not wanting to wait at the airport, the duo then headed to the La Mer beach only to be welcomed by cool breeze and cloudy skies. “We were pleasantly surprised by the weather today and we spent some quality time as we strolled on the beach and had breakfast outdoors by the sea around 11am, something we couldn’t imagine as it was pretty hot just a couple of days back.”

Apart from the towering clouds forecast associated with rainfall, the NCM also warned of poor visibility down to less than 2,000 metres at a time over some areas of the country.
