The Boss suffered defeat due to stupid mistakes, says coach Mamic

abu dhabi — Al Ain coach Zoran Mamic said the ‘Boss’ losing its first League match of the season was due to stupid mistakes on the field.

Al Ain scored the opening goal but Al Jazira won the encounter 2-1 with two late strikes. Al Ain had some 13 attempts on goal to just six by Al Jazira. It was, however, the higher conversion rate by visitors which made the difference at the end. Al Ain also won seven corners to four by Al Jazira.

The host also enjoyed greater possession. But the likes of Marcus Berg, Caio, Hussain El Shahat and Bandar Al Ababi failed to convert. Mamic said failing to score in front of goal was unacceptable and the players didn’t push enough to score more.

“We lost the match in a stupid way through our mistakes. We had a chance to finish this game much earlier. We missed lot of chances. We didn’t score second or third goal. And in football this happens often that the team which loses this many chances at the end lose the game,” he said.

Mamic also blamed the choices he made in substitution.

“I didn’t make good changes. The changes (Jamal Maroof, Amer Abdulrahman and Ibrahim Diaky) didn’t bring any plus for us. But in football it happens that someday you make good choices and at times you make mistakes.”

Mamic turned philosophical and noted: “When you miss so many chances, the ball remembers that you were not good and as payback you concede two goals and you lose the game.” After six rounds, Al Jazira sit second with 14 points, level with Sharjah and Al Ain third with 13 points.
