RTA launches mobile charging stations for electric vehicles
dubai — Scared of running out of power while driving your electric vehicle (EV)? The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is launching a mobile charging station which can come to you to recharge your EV.
The RTA is unveiling its smart charging station at the Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (Wetex) 2018, which opens today and will run until Thursday at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Encouraging more people to go green and drive eco-friendly cars, the RTA said that this project is part of the national agenda of building a green economy for sustainable development.
Aside from aiming to reduce carbon emissions and providing quick response to emergency cases, the RTA’s initiative will also boost public confidence in using electric vehicles as an alternative to fuel-powered cars, said Mattar Al Tayer, directorgeneral and chairman of the board of executive directors of the RTA.
Al Tayer said the agency would also beef up the limo fleet of the Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) Supplied photo
with 200 self-driving Tesla EVs. Fifty of these electric vehicles had already started operations, while 75 others will be added before the end of this year. The remaining 75 vehicles will be supplied in 2019. The DTC had coordinated with authorities to set up 13 electric charging stations for the fleet.
