Confident of having a better racing season this year: Yasir Mabrouk

dubai — The horse racing season is all set to kick-start with Jebel Ali Racecourse hosting the first race on Friday, Oct. 26.

“We had a successful season last year and we are confident of having a better one this season,” said Yasir Mabrouk of Emirates Racing Authority, on the sidelines of the announceme­nt of the sponsors for the racing season.

“Jebel Ali normally puts up a good card. They look after the crowds, the trainers, the jockeys, and more importantl­y the prize money is good. “This year the entries are very promising, 116 horses entered today (Monday) and that number could go up by tomorrow (Tuesday),” he confirmed.

“Most of the big name jockeys are coming. Royston is already here, then we have Ben Curtis, Richard Mullen, William Lee, these are a few names,” he added.

The first race will have a prize money of Dhs 85,000 while the second race carries Dhs 75,000.

The third race has a prize money of Dhs 95,000 but the main race boasts of an amount of Dhs 120,000. Dhs 80,000 will be on offer for the fifth race and Dhs 95,000 for the sixth while the last and seventh race has a winning amount of Dhs 75,000. Also there will be prizes for the best turned out horse in every race.

A cash prize of Dhs 400 each to 25 winners will be distribute­d through raffle draws after the end of all races.
