ajman — The Ajman Police seized 5,777 vehicles, including those involved in various cases of crime and others found flouting traffic regulations, during the last nine months.

There has been a 17-per-cent spike in the number of seized cars in nine months this year as compared to the same period last year, which saw the confiscation of 4,913 cars for violations that endangered the lives of road users.

Major-General Sheikh Sultan Al Nuaimi, commander-in-chief of the Ajman Police, said the vehicles were confiscated as part of the traffic inspection campaign carried out by the traffic and patrol department to ensure road safety.

“These motorists committed serious traffic violations such as jumping the red light, tinting of car windows beyond permissible limit, overtaking from the wrong side, non-renewal of vehicle licence, driving under the influence of alcohol, and so on,” he pointed out.

Al Nuaimi said many of the violations had been detected due to intensified inspections, patrolling, and the presence of more radars on highways and interior roads.

He said that during these campaigns, the police also suspended 309 driving licences during the last nine months, as compared to 229 during the same period in 2017 for violating traffic regulations and exceeding black points. “The police have launched a number of traffic safety awareness programmes to help curb traffic jams through social media and other platforms.”

Al Nuaimi urged motorists to abide by traffic laws and avoid dangerous driving to keep the roads safe for everyone.
