sharjah — A total of Dh1.9 million worth of road constructions and maintenance have been recorded in Sharjah in the last three quarters of the year, according to the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

Sheikha Al Zuwain, director of roads procurement and tenders, said the maintenance and development work covered a number of the emirate’s major roads.

“All road surface markings at Al Madam area have been repainted, and 90 per cent of these marks have been done on the SharjahDhaid arterial road, from the culture square to the third intersection,” Al Zuwain said.

These are apart from the work done in some internal areas of Al Dhaid, including Al Zafaran and Al Sharia, she added.

“The roads in the Ukhaider area in the central region, as well as the Sheikh Majid Bin Saqr Al Qasimi Road from the culture square to the Sharjah Ring Road and the borders of the Emirate of Ajman, have also been developed.” Roadways and markings around shopping centres, Bunadiq area and Al Majara Park were all freshened up, along with the speed humps around the university city and the pedestrian crossings at Al Jubail bus station opposite the fish market.

The safety of all road users, motorists and pedestrians alike, is a top priority of the RTA Sharjah, she said.

Metal barriers and traffic signals have been installed for pedestrians’ safety, she said. “In time for the opening of the new academic year, new crossings have been built at Al Azra and Muwileh areas.”

Customers feedback and complaints are welcome at the RTA Sharjah’s 24/7 call centre (600525252).
