dubai — A 30-year-old man stood trial at the Dubai Court of First Instance for allegedly trying to kidnap a Filipina while posing as a policeman.

According to the records of the case that dated back to January 9, the unemployed man with a Comoros Islands passport impersonated a police officer and tried to force her into his car. The woman, however, did not believe him.

The victim, a 24-year-old supervisor, said that around half past midnight, she was waiting for a friend in Al Rashidiya when the defendant approached her. “He wanted me to ride in his car. He grabbed my right hand and tried to pull me to get inside the car.”

The defendant pretended to be a cop and tried to convince her for 10 minutes, she told the court. “He accused me of trying to open the parked cars but I insisted I would only get inside an official police patrol car.”

He followed her when she walked into an alley. He even showed her a driving licence claiming it was his official ID, she said. “When I was about to take a picture of his number plate, he tried to snatch my mobile phone. He pushed me, causing scratches on my body,” she said.

The impostor fled when a resident arrived at the scene upon hearing the commotion, she told the investigator. The complainant presented a medical certificate in the court stating that she was left with scratches on her hand.

The defendant confessed that he had met the woman on the night of the incident. The court will pronounce a ruling on November 15.
