Vriitya is the hero in CBI’s win over Jumeirah

-

dubai — Vriitya Aravind is cricket’s new wonderkid on the block. The under-16 lad has been the talk of the Dubai Cricket Council’s league matches which are being played at the Sevens ground in Dubai.

After an impressive showing in the Youth League which concluded recently Vriitya has carried that form into the sixth edition of the League of Mammoths cricket tournament.

Vriitya’s brilliant 68 against Zabeel Mammoths helped Commercial Bank International (CBI) to an easy 50-run win. He came up with another scintillating 84 over the weekend to steer CBI to a crushing win over Jumeirah Mammoths.

On opting to bat after winning the toss CBI lost opener Hari Krishnan for 0. Vriitya and Ilyas Ahmed build the innings with a 64-run partnership.

Man of the match Vriitya’s 84 and Ilyas’ 27 followed by contributions from Rajeev Patil (21), Mohammad Azam (24) and Shajil Balan’s cameo scoring an unbeaten 23 from just 8 balls enabled CBI reach 196 for 7.

Jumeirah managed 160 for 9 thanks to Anoop Nair’s 44 and Shiva Pagarani’s 33. But credit should go to CBI bowlers Nihal Anwar (4-30), Ravi Raj (2-33) and Sudhir Vavilla (2-17) for keeping the pressure on Jumeirah.

A half century from Kapil Gandhi and an unbeaten 41 from Prajakat Chohan took Zabeel Mammoths to 188 for 6. Later man of the match Deepak Patel (4-29), Ranjeet Chavan (2-31) and Abhishek Chavan (2-42) bowled exceedingly well to bundle Nad Al Sheba out for 163 in 22.4 overs.
