A NEW COMMITTEE FOR THE FUTURE
After the opening ceremony, the members discussed a new committee dubbed the ‘Future Committee’, which aims to follow up on issues that are related to the UAE’s future, in accordance with the UAE 2071 Vision.
The members of the new committee must “foresee the future” by analysing and carefully studying the policies, new legislations, and international agreements.
However, some Federal National Council (FNC) members claimed that the new committee was “not necessary”. “There is a contradiction between the role of the new committee and the current committees in the council,” said member Hamad Al Rahoomi.
“The existing committees are already foreseeing the future and following up with the ministries regarding plans in the future.”
Dr Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, speaker of the FNC, pointed out that the new committee aimed to follow the government’s vision towards the country’s goals for the future, particularly since it is the UAE Cabinet that introduced the Future Ministry.
Although some members argued against forming the new committee, majority of the council voted for its creation.
During the first session, the members also elected the “observers of the council”, who must monitor the progress of each committee, as well as the progress of the FNC sessions.
