Bengal pick Zaheer as Indian Icon Player

dubai — Bengal Tigers picked Indian spearhead Zaheer Khan as their Icon Player from India in the draft which happened on Tuesday at Capital Club.

Anis Sajan, the mentor of Bengal Tigers who was present at the draft, said: “We always wanted Zaheer Khan to be our Icon Player from India and we were the lucky ones out of the eight Franchise to get the first chance to pick Zaheer Khan in the draft. It’s all about luck and I would be honest in admitting the hand of God was on Bengal Tigers that we got the first pick and it was no brainier for us in going in for Zaheer.”

Zaheer Khan was the star of the Indian bowling attack for a decade and was very much instrument­al in India winning the 2011 World Cup and he was the highest wicket-taker in the 2011 World Cup. He is also the 4th highest wicket-taker for India in ODIs and 5th highest in Test cricket. For his contributi­on to Indian cricket, he was also awarded the prestigiou­s Arjuna award in 2011.

Zaheer Khan has a wealth of experience playing for different franchise in the IPL and has also captained Delhi Daredevils and his experience will come in handy for the team, added Anis Sajan.

Also, there was a draft for UAE players and Bengal picked Chirag Suri as their first pick and Mohammed Usman as their second. Sajan said: “We have in our support staff ex-UAE player Khurram Khan and he was the one who told me to go for Chirag Suri as he is fittest among all the UAE players and came out as triumphs when yoyo test for the UAE players were done.”
