abu dhabi — The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (Adek) is studying a proposal to establish twelve international-curriculum schools that will provide high quality education to Emirati students for free.

Officials said the locations, stages and curriculum that will be offered by these schools are being studied under a master plan for both the public and private school sectors.

The Adek officials said that these schools are part of Adek initiatives aimed at developing the educational system, raise the quality of education in Abu Dhabi and enhance partnership with the private sector. The schools, that are expected to open after the completion of the review, will be supported by the government and offered free for Emirati students.

“Among the most important conditions to register Emirati students in these types of schools is proximity (student should be living nearer or in same locality with the school) and availability of seats,” said Adek officials.

Expat students will also be allowed to register in these schools depending on certain conditions that include availability of places for new students, meeting the required academic performance standards and a commitment by the parent to pay the tuition fees on time.

The first model of such schools was implemented through the opening of the Al Rayana School in Al Falah area this academic year, which accommodates 2,000 pupils.
