dubai — More students in Dubai are joining the ‘Rahhal’ initiative as schools are being encouraged to customise learning experiences for individual learners and extend learning beyond classrooms.

‘Rahhal’, an initiative of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), is being rolled out in Dubai’s schools as part of 10X, a Dubai Future Foundation initiative to take Dubai 10 years into the future — within just two years.

Hind Al Mualla, chief of creativity, happiness and innovation at the KHDA, said: “Each student has a different way of learning and through Rahhal, we are creating new experiences — for both schools and students. We recognise the needs of our students and find new opportunities to see how students with unique learning needs can be supported. Recognising out-of-school learning is a big step towards the future and every Rahhal student presents a unique story. We will see more students transform into Rahhal learners over the coming months as the programme extends to more schools in Dubai.”

She added: “Rahhal works on a system of trust between the school and the learner and we enable this learning to take place by setting clear objectives. We are happy to meet parents and schools to create new opportunities of learning as part of our Rahhal journey.”

Schools in Dubai have already committed to the Rahhal initiative with two schools becoming a part of Rahhal. The latest addition to Rahhal is a student from Delhi Private School Dubai.

Rashmi Nandkeolyar, principal of DPS Dubai, said: “Rahhal is a ground-breaking and visionary scheme from the KHDA which empowers every student to find their personalised learning path. Education research increasingly

suggests that students find their rhythm in different ways and later on become productive and fulfilled citizens. We expect many more students to opt for Rahhal now that the ice is broken.”

Every month, Rahhal open days are facilitated at the KHDA to discuss ideas and facilitate information sharing with parents and students. Schools and families can register for the open day by visiting http://sgiz.mobi/s3/KHDA-10X.

Meaning traveller in Arabic, the message of Rahhal is simple: The world is a classroom, and all learning counts. By providing a supportive regulatory environment, Rahhal creates learning opportunities for everyone in society.
