abu dhabi — More than Dh100 million worth of counterfeit products have been seized by the Abu Dhabi Police, authorities revealed on Sunday.

The police said they started seizing the products, which were being sold in commercial markets, since the beginning of this year. The seized products ranged over 31 top brands, including gold, medical devices, various vehicles parts, smoking supplies including electronics, miscellaneous accessories, clothing, perfumes, glasses, watches, bags, wallets, shoes, and other goods.

Brigadier Mohammed Suhail Al Rashidi, acting director of criminal security sector of the Abu Dhabi Police, added that the economic crimes branch in the economic crimes department at the criminal investigations department of Abu Dhabi Police carried out the raids and monitored the confiscation.

Brigadier Al Rashid stressed the dangers of unsafe goods, which harm the reputation of international companies. He said the goods are stored in hideouts, which violate the requirements of public safety, adding that the products were stored in a way that could have caused fire.

Brigadier Al Rashidi urged consumers not to buy fake goods marked with slogans identical to the original products. He urged consumers to inform the authorities about fake products on sale, instead of buying them.
