Shamlal Ahamed, managing director of internatio­nal operations at Malabar Gold & Diamonds, found himself at the helm of the jewellery retailing business affairs at a very young age.

He began his career in sales at multiple stores of Malabar Gold & Diamonds in 2002, before moving to the distributi­on and manufactur­ing division at Malabar Gold & Diamonds in 2004. In 2005, he went on to work as the executive director at Malabar Gold & Diamonds’ Calicut showroom, before taking up his post as managing director of internatio­nal operations at Malabar Gold & Diamonds in 2007.

With his motto ‘promise only what you can deliver’, Ahamed has seen the brand scale new heights in an already competitiv­e market, with him winning over client confidence in a short period of time.

He has managed to propel Malabar Gold & Diamonds to the forefront of the internatio­nal retail jewellery arena. Building on the group’s trust and reliabilit­y, he propelled it to being one of the Middle East’s largest jewellery retailers in a short span of time.

Ahamed has identified the retail markets of Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and the United States for immediate expansion and has also his eyes set on the markets in Brunei and Europe.
