sharjah — The Sharjah Criminal Court has acquitted 11 Asians, who were charged with theft of airconditioners from a government department in Sharjah, over lack of evidence.

According to case records, the suspects had allegedly stolen four air-conditioners from the government office and sold them to a scrap shop in the Industrial Zone Area 6 for Dh800. The incident came to light in October when the Sharjah Police received a complaint about the missing air-conditioners. The police found that the four air-conditioners were sold to a scrap shop for Dh200 per unit and arrested all the suspects.

One of the officers who was involved in the arrest of the suspects said he did not interrogate them and his mission was only to take four of the accused to the site where the air-conditioners went missing.

During the court hearing, all the 11 accused said they did not commit the crime. The shop owner said he did not buy any goods without being accompanied by a bill, and he submitted the bill to the court.
