Crowd of 100 nationalit­ies to walk for tolerance

Govt offices and private firms will join the event

abu dhabi — Hundreds of UAE officials and residents from 100 nationalit­ies will all march together in a walkathon on Friday, kicking off the country’s National Tolerance Festival that will run from November 9 to 16.

More than 120 local and federal offices and private organistio­ns have pledged to take part in the tolerance walkathon that was organised by the Ministry of Tolerance. It will start from Umm Al Emarat Park and will cover a distance of two kilometres.

Also marking the Internatio­nal Day of Tolerance, the event will be a celebratio­n of diversity in an environmen­t of peace, harmony and respect, the announceme­nt said.

Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance, said: “Our pride stems from the fact that we are a country where everyone thrives equally regardless of their difference­s.”

He said the UAE’s message of tolerance and co-existence is for everyone. The tolerance walkathon, the festival, and all the ministry’s year-round initiative­s aim to raise public awareness about the significan­ce of acceptance and understand­ing in society, Sheikh Nahyan said. —
