abu dhabi — Hundreds of UAE officials and residents from 100 nationalities will all march together in a walkathon on Friday, kicking off the country’s National Tolerance Festival that will run from November 9 to 16.
More than 120 local and federal offices and private organistions have pledged to take part in the tolerance walkathon that was organised by the Ministry of Tolerance. It will start from Umm Al Emarat Park and will cover a distance of two kilometres.
Also marking the International Day of Tolerance, the event will be a celebration of diversity in an environment of peace, harmony and respect, the announcement said.
Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance, said: “Our pride stems from the fact that we are a country where everyone thrives equally regardless of their differences.”
He said the UAE’s message of tolerance and co-existence is for everyone. The tolerance walkathon, the festival, and all the ministry’s year-round initiatives aim to raise public awareness about the significance of acceptance and understanding in society, Sheikh Nahyan said. —
