How I escaped from paying fines a third time

- SHRUTY NISHAD

More than a decade and a half of driving experience with just three errors to count is not a small feat. The first happened when I was looking for parking and was driving at a slow pace scavenging for a decent slot. Suddenly a car reversed and hit my car’s front bumper. That driver, in his 20 years of driving experience had committed a mistake for the first time, while I had just kick-started my driving phase with a bang!

The second instance happened when I was on a highway. I was very much within the speed limit when a car hit me from behind. We both had to stop the traffic, park on the yellow shoulder and wait for the police. The other driver showed his identity; he was a police officer and was going out with his family. When the RTA police arrived, I was sent off with fines exempted. Lucky, a second time.

In the latest one, I was waiting on a very busy road to take a left turn while another car waited behind me to go straight. The lady driver waited patiently for a good whole 10 minutes and then suddenly overtook me from the left. At the same time I was free to take my turn, too, and our cars hit. She apologised and courteously spoke to the police in Arabic. And I was just glad to have not been fined again. So, with a few road lessons learnt I will see you all on the road.
