dubai — A charity concert featuring nearly 60 Malayalam movie stars and artists will be held at the Abu Dhabi Armed Forces Officers Club on December 7, announced actor Mohanlal on Monday.

Proceeds from the concert ticket sales will go towards the Kerala rebuilding project launched by chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Beginning on August 15, severe floods affected the south Indian state of Kerala, due to unusually high rainfall during the monsoon season. Over 483 people died in the floods, and the state incurred an estimated Rs200 billion in material losses.

Speaking to the UAE media at a Press conference in Dubai on Monday, Mohanlal, along with managing director of South at Star India Private Limited K Madhavan, announced that the event is hoping to raise approximately Rs5 crore (Approx Dh2.5 million). The event will be called Onnannu

Nammal (We are together). “The concert will feature Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (Amma) members. Movie stars, dancers, singers and all kinds of artists are expected to be part of the concert. The concert will be five-hours long, split into six segments. There will be a special laser show using the latest 3D mapping technology,” Mohanlal explained.

A total of 5,000 concert seats will be sold at Dh100, 500 seats at Dh1,000, and a few especially prized seats valued at Rs2.5 million (Approx Dh128,000). The venue has a seating capacity to home over 8,000 people. Madhavan added: “Not a single ticket will be given away for free. We want to raise as much as we humanly can,” added Madhavan. Actors Mammootty, Manju Warrier and Nivin Pauly sent special video messages. Madhavan said: “Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance, will be attending the concert’s opening ceremony.”

Dileep not to perform

He said actor Dileep, who was named in an actress kidnapping and molestation case, will not be participating at the concert on December 7. “Dileep is no longer a member of Amma. So, he will not be performing for Onnanu Nammal,” Mohanlal explained. “We are organising this event in Abu Dubai since we have already done so many events in Dubai. And Kerala is not in a position to host an event of this scale. However, the show will be broadcast on television for viewers across the globe.”

Movie stars, dancers, singers and all kind of artists are expected to be part of the concert. The concert will be five-hours long, split into six segments.”
