dubai—The Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF) will launch the world’s first knowledge future foresight report to help decision-makers across the globe use technology in the benefit of their societies, it was announced on Monday.

The report, which will be launched in collaboration with the United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) during Knowledge Summit 2018, will predict the status of knowledge in 20 countries based on their current implementation of technology, in line with the fourth industrial revolution.

Jamal Bin Huwaireb, CEO of MBRF, said the countries selected are considered pioneers of knowledge, as the report aims to predict the leader of the knowledge movement in the next few years, link the technology use and the type of future skills needed to achieve sustainable development.

“We used big data to gather information from over 150 million electronic resources to evaluate policies of different governments and their awareness of implementing technology across different sectors,” he said.

The report measures governments’ use of blockchain, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and biotechnology in education, economy, research innovation and communication technology. “Based on results of the report, we will update governments on the gaps they need to fill to raise knowledge levels using technology,” said Bin Huwaireb.

Dr Hany Torky, chief technical adviser at the UNDP, said big data was used to evaluate people’s awareness of technology, while decision-maker’s awareness were evaluated by their policies. “Attempts to spread knowledge

through technology will not be complete without awareness of both governments and people,” said Torky.

Khalid Abdel Shafi, the UNDP’s director of regional bureau for Arab states, said results and reports of the knowledge project will help formulate a forward-thinking strategy that encourages all countries to support knowledge and promote it as a main component in the effort to build a knowledge economy and ensure sustainable development in the Arab region and the world.
