Vegetarian diet key to losing weight

dubai — Eating healthy, balanced, whole-food and plantbased meals is the most effective diet for weight loss, a dietitian has said. This provides the body with the right amount of energy, nutrients and water.

May Al Joudeh, a dietitian at Medeor 24x7 Internatio­nal Hospital, said: “This means in addition to drinking lots of water throughout the day, you must eat plenty of plant foods in their whole form (not extracts, juice or byproducts), including vegetables, fruits, legumes, whole grains, nuts and seeds with moderate amounts of lean animal source foods, such as lean cuts of red meat and poultry, fish and sea food, and low fat or fat-free dairy.”

“Avoid or limit high-sugar, fatty and processed food as much as possible and eat them in limited amounts as a treat, not a staple,” she said.

By consuming a healthy, plant-based diet and doing regular exercises, not only will you lose the excess weight, you will also lose it gradually.”

Regular exercise

On the other hand, the best way to lose weight through exercise is to do it regularly for 45 to 60 minutes, five to six times per week, incorporat­ing different types of workouts like aerobics, weight resistance and stretching.

“By consuming a healthy, balanced, whole-food and plantbased diet and doing regular, full-body exercises, not only will you lose the excess weight, you will also lose it gradually, giving the body a chance to cope with it,” Joudeh said.

She said that those following this routine would not suffer usual weight loss side effects like loose skin, loss of lean tissues, cravings and hunger, dull skin or skin problems, hair loss, hormonal imbalance, mood swings, or anemia.

“In addition to gaining your health back, you will improve all the other aspects of your body, have better energy levels, see improvemen­ts, experience less cravings, feel full and satisfied, lose weight from your excess fat mass not the lean tissues, and most importantl­y, you will be able to easily maintain and control a healthy weight,” she added.
