Buamim new chair of World Chambers
dubai — Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry president and CEO Hamad Buamim has been appointed chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce’s World Chambers Federation (WCF).
This was announced during a high-level WCF General Council meeting held in Dubai recently.
Buamim, who previously served as deputy chair of the WCF, will assume his new position at the beginning of 2019 for a period of three years.
He will supervise the WCF’s efforts to foster and facilitate collaboration and cooperation between chamber leaders and their members worldwide.
Buamim succeeds Peter Mihok, president of Slovakia’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry, who held the position for the last six years.
Meanwhile, Dubai will host the inaugural UAE & Caribbean Cooperation Forum 2018 today, with over 100 representatives from public and private sectors identifying emerging opportunities and collaboration between the UAE and Caribbean nations.
Buamim revealed that Dubai’s non-oil trade with the countries of the Caribbean reached Dh11 billion between 2013 and 2017, with the first half of 2018 registering Dh502 million in bilateral non-oil trade. Dubai was the largest trading partner in the region, as the emirate’s non-oil trade with the country amounted to Dh417.7 million in 2017.
