Noble values of Zayed, Gandhi inspire us all
The UAE-India relationship is a model for all nations at a time when conflict and conflagration is the order of the day. The GandhiZayed Digital Exhibition showcases values that bind the nations and honours the two illustrious leaders who were instrumental in shaping their respective countries. While trade, oil and aviation formed the basis of bilateral relations until recently, both the nations have now adopted a proactive, mature and confident foreign policy. They share common goals, like fighting terrorism and combating extremism and ideologies of hatred. Their growing security and defence partnership is proof of this relationship. The two-million strong Indian expat community in the UAE is the largest in the world, and is still growing. And the record 1,076 flights between the two countries every week shows the depth of this social, cultural and strategic relationship. It’s easier to travel between the UAE and India than between cities in India. The easing of visit visa norms by both nations has ensured greater people-to-people interaction, be it Indian tourists seeking to enjoy the sun and the sand and Burj Khalifa, or Emiratis travelling to India for an incredible experience.
A digital museum that aims to promote peace, tolerance and sustainability is part of the centenary celebrations of the birth of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the UAE, and the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Though the two men were separated by time and region, their lives are an inspiration to billions of people. The initiative brings to life the legacy left by the two exceptional leaders and would help the younger generation fathom what the great men stood for and what they did for their respective nations. Conceived using cutting-edge technologies the exhibition which will showcase rare photos, videos and objects representing the philosophies of both leaders shows the love the two leaders had for their people and their respective trysts with destiny. They have set an example for people to follow. Here is an instance of two nations, driven by mutual trust, reciprocity, understanding and equality, coming together to celebrate their leaders even as they proclaim to the world the importance of peace and tolerance.
