Four specialised clinics for children launched in Dubai
dubai — Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital has launched four new multi-disciplinary clinics, as part of its efforts to elevate the standards of paediatric healthcare in the UAE and the region.
The new facilities include the Diabetes Clinic, Aerodigestive Clinic, Sleep Disorders Lab and Centre, in addition to the Weight and Wellness Clinic that will start receiving patients in January 2019.
Dr Mohamed Al Awadhi, COO of Al Jalila Children’s, said: “In general, any child who comes to us has the advantage of our 360-degree diagnosis approach. Meaning, whenever necessary, the child will be examined by several world-class doctors so we can give the family the best and most accurate diagnosis possible.”
The Diabetes Clinic at Al Jalila Children’s is a multi-disciplinary and one-of-a-kind service featuring a highly experienced team of two consultants, a diabetes educator, a dietitian and a psychologist. The clinic offers comprehensive care to infants, children and adolescents up to 18 years old with all types of diabetes, including Type 1, Type 2, cystic fibrosisrelated, steroid-induced, postpancreatectomy and rare genetic forms of the disease.
The Aerodigestive Clinic, on the other hand, is the only multidisciplinary programme in the UAE that includes paediatric specialists in pulmonology, ENT, gastroenterology, anaesthesiology, feeding, swallowing and nutrition. Aerodigestive disorders are conditions that affect both the pulmonary and gastrointestinal systems.
The Sleep Centre includes a state-of-the-art sleep laboratory and behavioural sleep clinic, a medical sleep clinic, and a CPAP adherence programme. It is managed by a team of medical professionals with expertise in treating sleep disorders in children of all ages — from newborns to adolescents. It follows international standards of care and tailors treatment plans to the requirements of each child and their families.
The Weight and Wellness Clinic offers patients the most advanced care available for weight management, aiming to provide innovative and compassionate bariatric care. Through collaboration, education and medical therapies, the team helps patients develop a skill set that empowers them to take ownership of their wellness journey.
