Ministers’ work comes under PM’s scanner

-

islamabd — A special meeting of the federal cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad on Monday, reviewed the performance of each ministry and decided that they would be tasked with a specific strategic plan for implementation over the five years.

The review meeting was held in order to further improve the performance of every ministry and work towards the enhancement of people’s quality of life.

During the meeting, the actions taken by respective ministries with regards to service delivery, austerity measure and future plans were discussed, with a view of how to improve each ministry’s performance.

It was decided that review meetings would be held on a quarterly basis to gauge the performance of every ministry, adopt midway course corrections when required and to ensure that the overall performance of the government was on track. The meeting comes in the wake of news reports that Finance Minister Asad Umar was stepping down from his post following differences with Khan and other cabinet members. The reports said that Khan held Umar responsible for the “government’s failure” at the economic front.

The information minister rejected the reports and said that Khan has full confidence in the capabilities of Umar and he is not going anywhere.

Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed stirred controversy on Sunday after he said that he was offered the information ministry by the prime minister.

Responding to this, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry remarked that he will be more than happy to vacate his position for Sheikh Rasheed.

Meanwhile, dispelling the impression of any change in the cabinet, Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar said such “rumours” were only limited to the media. Speaking to the media persons after a polo match, Sarwar regretted that there was no privacy left in these times of social media. “It does not happen only in Pakistan, politicians gossip and criticise each other but such talk never make headlines in print and electronic media in Britain,” he said while referring to his APP

experience of politics in the UK.

In a lighter vein, he said: “Media persons also gossip and speak against each other. If such private conversation is made public through social media, one can know how much you love each other,” he added. —
