Ajman goes high-tech with 4 new AI systems
ajman — A host of new systems, all powered by artificial intelligence (AI) technology, has been launched in Ajman as part of its Future Series project. These include a responder vehicle, a drone, self-driving cars and robots.
The responder would help the police and firefighters locate and reach incident sites at a record time, while the drone will be able to scan faces in a crowd and identify people who are on the emirate’s wanted list. Self-driving vehicles and robots, on the other hand, will be of service to Ajman residents.
Recently unveiled by Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, chairman of the Ajman Municipality and Planning Department, the new systems were designed to facilitate the smart transformation of the emirate.
He said residents could expect AI to be part of their daily lives as the Ajman government seeks to implement smart technologies across all areas of public service.
The self-driving cars, for example, represent the future of the transport sector, Sheikh Rashid said. These also support tourism in the emirate and allow residents to enjoy the “smart ride”.
Sheikh Rashid also reviewed the drone with face-recognition technology, and said these would help the authorities achieve their security targets and performance indicators.
Robots, on the other hand, will take customer service to a new level as the AI-powered system would allow staff to provide personalised service to every client. The comprehensive data generated from the system would also help customer centres improve their services.
Major-General Sheikh Sultan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of the Ajman Police, said the first responder vehicle, equipped with a radio, allows patrol members to make a voice call to all the different radio frequencies, in 25 different languages. It can also relay six different messages to alert motorists of the presence of the police patrols, so they can make room for them at a distance of 400 metres. This way, the patrols will be able to get to the incident site at the soonest possible time.
Speaking to Khaleej Times, Abdulrahman Al Nuaimi, director of Ajman Municipality, said these systems were reviewed by a committee that comprises officials from police, civil defence and the municipality.
