Eminent film, TV actor Ali Ejaz dies at 77

With Ali Ejaz’s death Pakistan has been deprived of a versatile artist and he will always be remembered due to his remarkable services in the film and TV arena.

islamabad — Renowned film, TV and stage actor Ali Ejaz has died in Lahore due to cardiac arrest. He was 77.

Ejaz started his career in 1967 and was well known for his role in a popular television comedy drama series Khawaja and Son.

He went on to achieve immense fame through hit serials that include Lakhon Mein Teen with actors Qavi Khan and Athar Shah Khan and later by starring in Dubai Chalo (1979). His cinematic journey started in 1961 as he went on to work in superhit movies like FBI

Operation Pakistan (1971), Sona Chandi (1983) and Chor Machaye Shor (1996).

Ejaz also initiated a social welfare programme near Sialkot under his NGO named Ali Ejaz Foundation.

One of his notable projects was the “The Homes for the Welfare of the Old People”, which involved

the constructi­on of 132 old -age homes covering an area of 17.5 kanals in Gol village near Ferozewala.

Informatio­n Minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussain expressed deep sorrow over his death.

The minister said that “with Ali Ejaz’s death Pakistan has been deprived of a versatile artist and he will always be remembered for his remarkable services in the film and TV arena.”

He said Ejaz was a very talented

artist who performed humorous and serious characters with ease. Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar and Provincial Informatio­n Minister Punjab Fayyaz ul Hassan Chohan also expressed grief over his demise.

They said that artistic services of late Ejaz will always be remembered.

The veteran actor essayed different roles in 106 movies, 84 of which were Punjabi, 22 Urdu, and 1 in Pashtu language. —
