sharjah — Roads around the emirate’s Central Market were reopened for traffic as the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) completed its Dh4million maintenance project earlier than planned, a senior official said on Sunday.

Mohsin Balwan, director of road maintenance at the SRTA, said intensive work had been done to improve the pavements in Al Soor in just 45 days.

“The entire pavement at the Central Market area and part of the King Faisal Road around the Ittihad Park had been totally replaced,” Balwan said.

Besides this project, tiles and asphalt layers in Al Soor were also replaced and all roads had been repainted, he said. “Up to 10,000m of pavement blocks had been repainted in Al Soor, while 680 parking spaces were built in the area, including 16 parking spots for seniors and people of determination.”

The SRTA also built 12 pedestrian lanes within the two main premises of the Central Market, Balwan said. “These are added to eight crossings that serve as entrances to the market.”

“The SRTA is working on an ambitious plan to develop the entire road network of the emirate and conduct regular maintenance work as per the latest international standards,” he added.

Balwan said they are always

ready to respond to customers’ feedbacks and complaints. Residents may call their 24/7 centre (600525252).
