ras al khaimah — An innovative treatment option has been unveiled for tumour patients at the Sheikh Khalifa Specialty Hospital (SKSH), which has treated over 2,500 patients in the last four years.

The new method has proved effective in curing liver cancer in the patients who cannot undergo surgery, Dr Myung-Whun Sung, CEO of SKSH, Ras Al Khaimah, told Khaleej Times. “Catheterisation is used in this technique to ease their suffering and eliminate tumours in a more accurate way.”

The medical procedure, Transcatheter Arterial Chemoembolisation (Tace), is done in coordination with the department of interventional radiology, he added. “It is an effective substitute for surgical intervention. It prevents the flow of blood to the malignant tumour and helps eliminate the malignancy,” he explained. “It also reduces the side effects associated with traditional treatment.”

Dr Sung said they have performed 1,900 operations to remove tumours. “The oncology centre has seen 30,400 visitors, including frequent patients, since

The hospital has formed a specialised medical council of staff consultants and specialists to study all cases and discuss available treatment procedures.
