STORIES EXTRAORDINAIRE
As we bid adieu to an eventful year, KT renews its pledge to bring you unbiased news in real time
Anewspaper, they say, is only as good as its reporters. That makes Khaleej Times one of the best newspapers in the world. The year that we bid adieu to tonight saw some exceptional, live and exclusive reportage from Team KT throughout the 365-day calendar. Our multimedia, real-time coverage of the mystery surrounding Indian actor Sridevi’s accidental death in Dubai became the primary news source for Indian and other global media for days before her body was repatriated. We brought you extensive on-the-ground reports from Pakistan during the historic elections this year, which saw youth icon Imran Khan pip seasoned politicians to the PM’s post. We went to war-hit Yemen and flood-ravaged Kerala to bring you news in its most unbiased form: live videos and images. We featured often heart-warming and at times gut-wrenching stories from the UAE’s generous amnesty drive. We spoke with some remarkable humans who had extraordinary tales to tell: a child soldier who was ordered to handle an AK47 by his family’s murderers, the brave-heart Syrian kid who spent three years in a refugee camp before he was reunited with his family in the UAE, an expat granddad who was going home empty-handed after 20 years in the UAE but left with KT readers’ gratitude. As we revisit some of the year’s most remarkable stories, we take this opportunity to renew the KT pledge of delivering unbiased news and unadulterated views to your doorstep and to a device of your choice, at a time of your convenience, year after year. Here’s wishing you, our readers, a happier and healthier New Year.
Areporter, they say, is only as good as her or his last byline. Generally, yes. But then there are few stories that a journalist will stumble upon in their lifetime that will redefine them in ways they couldn’t have imagined. 2018 was a year of many such stories for Team KT. Stories that enhance our understanding of humanity. Stories that have the power to shift our perspective. Stories that can make us understand nuances of events (death of a film star) and movements (like #MeToo). This year, KT reporters did some exceptional on-ground reportage: elections in Pakistan, floods in Kerala, war in Yemen, Amnesty in UAE… We met some extraordinary people: a child soldier who watched his family get killed, an expat granddad who was going home empty-handed after 20 years in the UAE… We witnessed philanthropy, trends, and stories of hope. We bring you some of our landmark stories of 2018 in the next few pages.
